Has something changed in Gmail recently where HTML style tags are being removed from Gmail on the web?  HTML emails that have worked in the past are no longer working because the CSS is either being stripped or ignored.  I've tried this in both Firefox and Chrome on a Mac, multiple Windows 10 PCs, and Chrome for Android -- style tags removed/ignored on all of them.  This only appears to be a problem for the web versions of Gmail -- my Android phone's native Gmail app is displaying everything properly.  To ensure it wasn't a problem with the CSS itself, I removed all of my CSS within the style tag and added 1 CSS class that would change the font and font size and then removed all HTML except for 1 line of text to see if the CSS change would take effect (which it didn't).  I've also tried this with a different Gmail account and am facing the same issue.  The ONLY way I've managed to get everything to look properly is with the use of inline styles.

Also curious about this -- ran into the same issue today, and had never seen this behavior before.

Also see the same behavior in a Google Apps account as of the last day or so. Seem different for different people as well. Some people in my office saw the email the way I built it and others saw a half styled look.

I have exactly the same problem. It seems that suddenly the style tag in the head is no longer recognized. This is the first time I see this problem.

Please, can the GMAIL team guide us to solve this problem?

Also having the same problem.  And gmail's own help on using styles no longer works either:

Neither example on that page displays correctly in gmail in a web browser.

It seems to happen with GMail's "smartlabel_personal" webmail version, which is served by default on mobile phone and tablet browsers.
You can access it with from your Desktop at

There, using Firefox's "Web Developer -> Inspector" you'll see that ALL your classes and <styles> are removed from the HTML email... So you'll need to put all your styles inline and forget about media queries... vw units seem to work though.

Just as the user above said, Gmail is removing all css styles throughout the body, and removing all css styles in the head tag. Their own documentation says this should work but it's not working at all. I've wasted 6 hours trying to make this work.
