just received email stating that Samsumg email was granted access to my gmail account. Also, states that my password has been changed. Is this a scam or is there an actual problem?

Received email from Google stating that Samsung email has been granted access to my gmail account.  I did not authorize this.  Also, states that my gmail password has been changed.  I did not change it.  Is this a scam or am I in trouble?

Yup, me too. I'm guessing some sort of odd app update or something caused this to happen automatically? Which shouldn't really be possible?

I believe this is just something that is going out with the new updates. To be safe, don't change you password from the link in that email. Actually log in to your Samsung account and do it from there. My Husband and I both received this email.  But neither of us were prompted to change our password, just to confirm the activity.

Safety first. Never change anything regarding your accounts from email links.

Same here. "Samsung Email was granted access to your Google account." What's a "Samsung Email"? Is that the email app that came on the phone? I don't even use that. It lists my phone as the one who did it but all it says for IP address is "Near United States."
It just wanted me to confirm the activity.

Revoked Samsung Email's permission. Opened Samsung's "Email" app and was surprised to find it filled with my gmail account's messages. In that app's settings, under account, touched my email address and then Remove.

Hi there,

Personally I wouldn't worry about it, sometimes if a person has a very similar email address and gets confused they can prompt a reset to try to get their password reset. But if they can't access your email account then they can't get this password to get into your Samsung account. There also exists the possibility that the website sent this message out in error, that happens pretty frequently.

Yep, went through password change and then realized it was my phone that was the other device. It only gave the location as USA, so I went ahead and changed the password to be safe, via my desktop. When I was signing back in on my phone, it told me that the other device was my phone. Not technologically savvy enough, I guess. :)

Relevant Answer
Same here, I heard my device make a noise at me...while I was in bed. :/ Got up an hour later to find a security notification.

Samsung could reasonably have access to my account since this is a Samsung device, but I never use Samsung e-mail, and wasn't awake when this happened. Revoked access and changed my password...I *think* I did this directly through the Google notification on my device, but I was so flustered I can't be 100% sure! Ugh. Considered changing every other password. Then thought to Google it and ended up here.

IP was "near (my city)," so that wasn't particularly suspicious, but as I said I wasn't using the device when this happened. Checked my Google account as it suggested, no suspicious activity. My parents both have Samsung tablets connected to my account but they didn't do it, either.

EDIT, crud, didn't even think that it might not be THE Samsung e-mail rather than an unverified fake app. :(

I've never logged into gmail through your own email app, only use gmail app.  How could they get my password? Will they do this again? I'm pissed.  I dont need sudden flushes of security anxiety like this.  Thanks a lot.

Hmm, happened to me too. I wonder if this is somehow happening only on Samsung phones, even without the Samsung Email app installed?

Re spelling (Sky Flyer): that could be because of your locale (en_US, vs en_GB).

Otherwise looks to me that some update in the background caused this scary looking notification. Revoking the access seems enough. Not in the mood for changing my password.

And yes, the email is legit. Only the context seems weird.

Come on Samsung, how about responding here??? If this is just an update glitch, then you need to tell us so.

I ignored the email and went to accounts.google.com. Looking under the security tab it doesn't list any recent security events... but the link in the email goes to an accounts.google.com webpage with https enabled so it seems legit. Yeah, this same "Alert" popped up on my (SamGalS7) screen the AM too.

I think that someone at Google made a boo boo. My Samsung phone has always had my Gmail account so it can send/receive emails in the built in email app, but more importantly, so that all my CONTACTS will sync with my Gmail account too!

I use the Gmail app, not the Samsung email app, but, I definitely want my phone to sync contacts with my Gmail account. So, I'm ALLOWING it, because I'm afraid that my phone won't be able to sync if I Deny it permission to that Gmail account.

I just wish that large organizations like Google would be more accurate in their OS/app coding - I sincerely believe that this is an oversight on their part, because as far as I can see - nothing has changed:-/
