Received email from Google stating that Samsung email has been granted access to my gmail account.  I did not authorize this.  Also, states that my gmail password has been changed.  I did not change it.  Is this a scam or am I in trouble?

I've always been able to view my gmail emails on my Samsung email so why send me the email now?

Yup, me too. I'm guessing some sort of odd app update or something caused this to happen automatically? Which shouldn't really be possible?

This just happened to me on only my backup email account. My main gmail is the account recovery for the back up. My password is no longer correct as well.

Yep, received the same and a Google search brought me here. I'm assuming it's an oddly timed App update and there no need to change passwords, etc...?

I believe this is just something that is going out with the new updates. To be safe, don't change you password from the link in that email. Actually log in to your Samsung account and do it from there. My Husband and I both received this email.  But neither of us were prompted to change our password, just to confirm the activity.

Safety first. Never change anything regarding your accounts from email links.

Same here. "Samsung Email was granted access to your Google account." What's a "Samsung Email"? Is that the email app that came on the phone? I don't even use that. It lists my phone as the one who did it but all it says for IP address is "Near United States."
It just wanted me to confirm the activity.

Revoked Samsung Email's permission. Opened Samsung's "Email" app and was surprised to find it filled with my gmail account's messages. In that app's settings, under account, touched my email address and then Remove.

Check for devices that have signed into your account. Someone in my city signed into my account from a Linux. I changed the password.

Same here. Checked the app access and it said access was granted about an hour ago...which was 6am pacific, 9am eastern or 1pm GMT...all weird times for any server to be updating. removed access and changed password.

this is spooky because the same thing happened to me 30 mins ago! I think theres a security hole or something because the same thing happened with a "Google Wallet". Both are from unverified developers.

It is legit as logged into Google the security center has the same message there - but is it an error or overly aggressive Google?

We have two accounts that received the same notification.  We were able to reverse the authorization on one of the accounts.  We were unable to remove the authorization for the second account.  This is suspicious since we do not have a Samsung email account!  We are not changing our password for now.

It seems like everyone's been getting this email at around the same time! I'm signed in to Samsung's email app, and use it occasionally. All the information of the sign in is from my phone, in my town but like everyone else, I'm worried about whatever this may be

Hi there,

Personally I wouldn't worry about it, sometimes if a person has a very similar email address and gets confused they can prompt a reset to try to get their password reset. But if they can't access your email account then they can't get this password to get into your Samsung account. There also exists the possibility that the website sent this message out in error, that happens pretty frequently.

Yep, went through password change and then realized it was my phone that was the other device. It only gave the location as USA, so I went ahead and changed the password to be safe, via my desktop. When I was signing back in on my phone, it told me that the other device was my phone. Not technologically savvy enough, I guess. :)

Yay Google Security!  The lame security we've come to expect.  "Hey, this just happened.  Do you want to secure you account now by changing your password for the um-teenth time?"  C'mon!  And now Samsung?  Really? How 'bout a response Google?  Or did everyone one on the security team quit?

This is a legit thing from Samsung app called "Samsung email" right?
I did authorized a Samsung device many months ago to be able to read my email.
The problem is that Samsung decided to send the notification email now? So late? why?
