My out of office auto responder is replying to spam emails. I’ve never had this issue before. Help! 0 Recommended Answers 20 Replies 45 Upvotes

As I always do before I go on vacation, I have set my out of office auto reply. Same setting as always - I don’t choose ‘just my contacts’ because I get new clients emailing me and don’t want to miss chances at new work. However in the Gmail guidelines it says that the out of office responder won’t respond to spam mail. Since I set this up yesterday - on two separate gmail accounts - lots of emails that have come into my spam folder have been replied to. Why is this happening? Is it a temporary glitch? It’s never happened before.

Same problem here - the help file for the vacation responder says this shouldn't happen: 

Note: Messages sent to your spam folder and messages addressed to a mailing list you subscribe to won't get your vacation response.

I got the same issue, plus some of the vacation response failed, and are attempting to resend again, only to fail and send me a bunch of "delivery failure" emails.

Yes, I am having the same problem. Vacation responder responds to spam emails but none of my clients. Makes running a business extremely difficult!
