TLS Negotiation failed, the certificate doesn't match the host error BUT email IS delivered!
0
I am getting an error message via email that:

"You're sending this from a different address or alias using the 'Send mail as' feature. The settings for your 'Send mail as' account are misconfigured or out of date. Check those settings and try resending.
The response was:
TLS Negotiation failed, the certificate doesn't match the host."

BUT...

1. Actually the EMAIL IS DELIVERED  !

-and-

2. I have another "send as" personality set up inside the same Gmail account, for the exact same domain name usiing the exact same email server / port and that other send as works just fine (when "sending as" that other address, no error message is produced).

-and -

3.  The settings have not changed in years.  Noting about the email server has changed either, yet this just started happening as of TODAY (April 11, 2020)

Also, I have the Google security feature "use less secure apps" turned ON

The same error occurs regardless of which gmail interface is used (Gmail app for Adroid or mobile browser or notebook/laptop gmail browser).  Sending email directly to the SMTP server via an email client such as outlook works fine with no errors and delivery is fine.  So, this must be a gmail internal false error since the server works fine to deliver the mail and already emails at the same domains/same server/port also work fine.

What's going on?

Anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

I was able to resolve this by deleting and re-adding my "send mail as" information. Previously, the settings were as follows:

Email address: [name]@[domain].com
SMTP server: mail.[domain].com

New settings

Email address: [name]@[domain].com
SMTP server: [domain].com

It appears that everything after the @ in the email address must match the SMTP server.

Edit: 48 hours later, another email got rejected. Resolved by replacing the certificate.
