Continually getting someone else's email (dotted name) 2 Recommended Answers 124 Replies 671 Upvotes

For years I have been receiving email from someone else's gmail account.
Their email address is almost identical to mine except that theirs has a dot between first and last names while mine does not.
I have contacted this person and even some of their employment associates who send very sensitive email information, to notify them that this is the case but they have not acted upon it or altered their position in any way.
I have read all the google documentation that tells me this this cannot happen and yet it still continues to.
It is of great concern to me as a very early adopter of gmail that I continue to receive their email, in some cases very personal or financial information about this other person. Also I am very concerned that this person is receiving my personal information.
What can google or I do to resolve this situation?

I'm having the exact same issue, except on the opposite end;

My email address is formatted NAME.NAME@gmail.com

But I constantly get emails addressed to NAMENAME@gmail.com that are clearly intended for someone else.

These emails are often critically important and personal, and yet I get them instead of the intended recipient.

There needs to be a way to physically speak to someone from Google to rectify this. Simply saying "it shouldn't happen" doesn't suffice.

Google's answer is bs. I've been getting bank statements, flight confirmations, car loan info and tons of family stuff from every other person on Earth that has my email Addy without the dots. Google, c'mon, please fix. You do everything else sooooo well.

Hi Trevor, I typed up quite a long answer but someone (probably a dumb Google algorithm) seems to have decided it was Spam and marked it for deletion.  All I see now is "This reply is no longer available."

Essentially, the screenshot you posted of the test I asked for just proves that the message was genuine, not a spoofed sender address.

The data in the other screenshot is drawn from public profiles, so someone has created a profile for Donna and Terry Bain and added your email address to it.  Terry is probably another one of those people who got the address tdbain123@ and is forgetting the 123 part - the Google About Me page (https://aboutme.google.com/) allows you to add any email address without verification.  I searched for Donna and Terry Bain but was unsuccessful.  Since the demise of Google Plus, I have no idea where to search for Google Profiles other than just generally scan the Internet.

Since there is no Google support presence for gmail.com accounts, we have nowhere to report this.  What's worse, is that all your contacts will see the same thing in their popups, it's not just in your account.
