Gmail notifications not working now on Android phone
1
I'm receiving the emails but there's no notification sound so I have to constantly check the inbox. Tried everything suggested on various posts and elsewhere.  The notification for texts is working.  People are saying it's related to a recent update.  Please help me fix it.

I've had the same problem.  Nothing seems to work to give me notifications for the gmail app.  Galaxy S8, last software update was March 5, 2019

None of this stuff works. Brand new S10+ here, and I get extremely random delayed or no notifications from GMail at all, unless I wake the phone up manually. I have tried EVERY recommended setting and option by Samsung. This is either a Google or Android issue - but neither party will admit it. This is $999 down the drain until it is fixed.

Same problem here with a Nexus 6P. Working OK until recent updates. Have tried clearing data as suggested on some posts, but no help. As soon as I wake up the screen, mail comes in. No saver mode being used

The same here, I have done all described here but notifications are not going to the phone with locked screen. I receive notification about email only after I unlock the screen. This is only a problem of last days for my LG V30 and nothing was updated during these days. Solution?

Hey guys, I found out the solution for myself. I am on a Galaxy S8 and I had the same issue, notifications weren't popping up on my bar up on the top. I noticed that you have to make sure that the label for which you are not getting notifications has to be synced.  In the Manage Labels option, you have to manually setup each label to sync, for whichever time you decide. Its worked just as I updated it, I finally got my Updates label notification which is usually more important than my Primary label.

I started having this issue when my Moto g7 Play updated to version 9 (Pie). All the notifications settings in the gMail app and the phone settings are enabled. I've tried disabling (can't uninstall), re-enabling, and downloading the app from the app store, and restarting the phone. Nothing has worked (locked screen or unlocked, app open or closed). I can send an email from another account to my MMS text address and the gMail address. I get the Text notification but nothing from gMail.

The timezone, power, and data settings described by the first reply are all set correctly. I am missing important emails because of this.

There was solution on Reddit: you need to change:
Settings - Battery and performance - Select apps - Show system apps - Gmail

and then change from "no limits" to "close the app".

It is against logic but this makes some of the notifications work.

For anyone wandering on the Internet looking for the solution. Reddit topic was archived.

Making MIUI and Gmail giving notifications makes the problem, they are doubled. Removing one of the notifications, here exactly battery option for Gmail, makes them work again.

May be needed to uninstall all Gmail updates and reset all the data for the app, then install updates and use.

Just struggled with this frustration for a while. Finally got it to work:

Settings->Apps & Notifications->Gmail->Permissions and then put the Storage toggle to on.

I guess one of the recent updates put that to off for some obnoxious reason. Thanks for nothing, tech support.

The one idea that worked for me was:

Go to Settings >Accounts>Select Automatically Sync Data>Account Sync>Gmail

It was already set to Sync, but I turned it OFF and then turned it ON again, then immediately got several notifications and my Gmail notification sound started working again.

This same issue is occurring with my Moto G7 power phone. All settings are enabled and notifications sound and visual are ok with my Gmail account but aren't happening for my second email address. Is this a bug after a recent (September 2019) update? It's very frustrating and I hope that it will be fixed very soon.

Same here. Samsung Galaxy J6+ - I tried everything described but I don't get any push notifications since few days. They were fine few days ago but 2-3 months ago I had similar problem - I was getting notifications only for one of my accounts but the other one was just fine. This inconsistent behavior is very annoying and the app is unreliable

I've turned off notifications for almost every single app and set Gmail to priority and it still doesn't work.

The only time I receive Gmail notifications are very early in the morning (after midnight until early morning).   Without fail, I when I wakeup I see notifications for useless promotional emails BUT NEVER DURING THE DAY WHEN I AM AWAKE.

Google you really suck.

thanks, i didn't go through the whole thing but it worked for me on my note 8. i believe it's the "reset apps" that did it for me. unfortunate that i had to do this but at least i can revisit and revise my app preferences.

I've been at this problem for almost a month now - tried system updates, played with ALL the settings I could find listed above, reddit, google forums etc. I just force stopped the app and that did the trick for me. So stupidly simple, yet nobody else has suggested it. Good luck!

Same here. It happened 1-2 months ago and then it started working again after a while. Two days ago, it started not working again. Of course I didn't change any settings, and notifications are still on; but I did update Google apps a few days ago.

EDIT: it started working again, after 2-3 days, without intervetion on my part.

I've benn facing the same problem and the solution in my case has been different:

Ajustes/Batería/Batería inteligente
Settings/Battery/Smart Battery (or Intelligent battery?)

TURN IT OFF!

This feature "learns" how heavily use you each application and decides, among other things, to slow down notifications (in my case, Gmail was syncronizing every 6 hours or so).

It everything else is not working, give it a try.
