Block an email address permanently

I really need to block a certain person from being able to contact me. It is not enough just to have their mail redirected to Spam. This is the only advice I can seem to find though. Must I actually change my email address?? Why is there no simple options seemingly to just block an address the way you can a phone number? Thanks so much.

There are no options to fully block e-mail. You can use the Gmail blocking (sent to Spam) or a filter (sent to Trash) but you can't prevent delivery to the account.

Gmail has a couple different options for blocking a sender. The first is an automate method that puts the blocked messages in Spam. See: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/8151

The other option is to go to Settings->Filters and create a filter for the particular sender. You have the options to label it, delete it, mark it as read, etc. See: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/6579/

pathetic. even AOL gave you the option to send to spam or permanently block by which the sender's email was sent BACK TO THEM discouraging future attempts at harassment!

I can't believe you can't report people to Gmail (especially if you have proof from the emails themselves), after all our personal details and our private space in our own home should be kept that way. People hacking into other peoples private details is wrong.......criminal even.

What exactly is reporting someone about harassing emails going to do? Unless gmail steps in and makes it so they can't send any more emails, but then they'll just go register a new email account and keep doing it.

It is completely beyond me why gmail cannot just add a "block this sender" button like hotmail or even yahoo mail used to do, and then you never have to see anything clogging up with that hated harassing name ever again. Instead we're stuck with it.

Unless you can find something else to search on in the messages, you'll just have to update your filter each time they change e-mail addresses.

I am shocked that I can't block a specific address from an unwanted sender. Yes, I understand that there are options to divert it but I don't want ANY contact with this person. I have him blocked everywhere on social media, except G-mail. That is crazy in this day and age. I will be switching.
