Hello

I contacted Google support, they suggested to leave a feedback, so I thought  to post my problem here aswell.

Steps to reproduce the issue:
1. Open Gmail app in Android
2. Open the hamburger menu
3. Tap "Settings"
4. Tap "Add account"
5. Tap "Exchange and Office 365"
6. Enter email address (O365 business address) and tap "next"
7. I am redirected to "login.microsoftonline.com" login page, where I enter my password and login (modern authentication)
8. I am prompted, with a screen, where I can grant permission to the Gmail app to access my O365 mailbox (Oauth2 access). I tap "Accept"
9. I receive an error message "Can't add your personal email to use a personal email account, tap X at the top of the screen and choose Outlook, Hotmail and Live" (screenshot at the bottom)

Steps taken to investigate:
Opened a case with support Case number: 7-9738000028624)
Tryed to add multiple accounts, tryed to add accounts on multiple factory fresh phones, other email apps works fine (Outlook for Android, Nine)

If anyone has a solution, or has the same issue, please post it here

Thanks!

Same on a customer's Moto E7.
Had to install the Outlook app as a workaround.

Peter,

Is your business account really an "Exchange" account? Remember, every Microsoft Outlook installation  is not necessarily running on an Exchange Server.

The "Outlook, Hotmail and Live" option would be a reference to accounts ending with outlook.com,  hotmail.com,  or live.com but I don't think that's what you have.

I think you need to click the "Other" option, for a business account that isn't running on an Exchange Server.

Same issue popped up recently with my work's O365 email.  I had to install outlook as a workaround.

Hello

Yes, It's an exchange account. IMAP and POP is disabled for the whole tenant only exchange active sync (EAS) possible for mobile devices.

Other email apps work fine for me aswell (I use Nine), but I fear that my users will start complain when they find out, that the native mail app on android doesn't work with O365 anymore.

Google should fix this ASAP!

I suspect that Gmail doesn't really support Modern Auth yet.  If your office 365 environment has MFA then they likely have blocked legacy protocols.

An app password might work for now as suggested above, but Microsoft is blocking all unsecured authentication later this year (October) and your app password may stop working at that time.
