That actaully is a former legitimate google URL. They recently depprecated the URL shortening tool. However existing URLs that were shortened using the tool are still functioning. So the email you received is legit

That link brings you to the apple store to update/install the gmail app. Its legitimate.

thanks, this is very interesting. I received an email from
Google <no-reply@google.com> with subject:
your new Apple iPhone doesn't have the latest Google apps

when I accepted it, I then got a text: here's the latest version if Gmail https://goo.gl/ekgsr7 [open on your phone]

this is when I noticed the link was goo.gl

So this is not genuinely from google right?

I don't understand what does numeric code 9 mean. U would think google would have a list of numeric codes but they don't.
