Failure to insert image in gmail signature
2
Hello, my gmail signature in image form suddenly could show today. I have tried to reset it, however, when I insert the picture in the signature setting, it only show a picture box with a cross. The signature does not only fail to show on our email but also fail to show on emails of other recipients. I wonder how I could fix it and work just like before.

I'm SO frustrated with this...spending way too much time trying to get an image in my gmail signature.  The image I need to use is not on the web...so I can't use a URL as required by gmail.  Google - what on earth did you do in a recent update?!?!?  I used to be able to add images without any issues.  This is extremely irritating...please fix!!!

Same problem for me as well :(. I have tried uploading the image to Google Drive, setting it to public, and copying the link. I also made a Google Site with the image on it, published the site and copied the image link. When I add the image URL to gmail it all works.... for one day! The next day the image is gone again. Just like many others here I have spent hours and hours trying to fix this and work out this problem, but so far still no success. Who can help us? And if anyone from Google reads this, please make this option easier. It shouldn't be this hard to use a logo in a signature.

This happened to me when logging in with several of my gmail accounts. Try log out of all your gmails accounts and only log in to the one you are trying to put signature with. This should fix the problem. But somehow my logo keep getting distracted after uploading.... I'm on that issue now... really annoying.

Figured it out! Had to call Google Help to figure this out. Go to the vertical three dots on the upper right, to the right of your logo. Then choose New Incognito Window. Go to Gmail and log in; go to email settings and in the signature field go to insert image and you should be good! It just worked for me- hope it works for you!

Post from Josh Miles 8864 worked for me!!! See below.

I found this and it worked for me! I logged out of all google accounts and resigned into the account I need the image. It worked!!

Here is the full post from the thread https://support.google.com/mail/profile/9897?hl=en Hope this helps:

if you only have the URL option  first do this , sign out of ALL YOUR google accounts , then sign into this one you want to do the signature in  then try again or try incognito / private browsing or use another browser temporarily to set it up

if that gives you the missing additional options -   click Insert Image in the signature tools and select UPLOAD - THIS WILL SET  THE IMAGE AS PUBLIC FOR YOU , just dont ever delete the image from DRIVE or it wont work  .

note  G Suite  accounts may not have this option - you can ask your admin if they are able to enable it for you ( https://support.google.com/a/answer/176652  )

or another option you can  try - copy the image , paste it into an email , send the email to yourself , copy the image from the email , paste into the signature

What you need to do is put your picture on an image hosting site first EG   http://imageshack.us/  or http://postimage.org/    ( http://email.about.com/od/freeimagehostingservices/ ) - when you've done that, copy its URL, and then paste the URL into the box provided when you click Insert Image in the signature tools

1. Upload the image you want to link in your signature to an image sharing website.

2. Make sure it is PUBLICLY available and not private to you or limited to certain groups

3. Open the image in its new home

4. Right click it and copy the URL

5. Go back to your signature block

6. Click Insert Image

7. Paste the URL you just copied 8. Save settings

if you use the paste URL method - this may happen : when you  copy and paste the URL and you see a broken image icon try this  - click on your URL or image so it opens the image in a new tab then copy the URL from the browsers URL bar   and paste into gmail

note someone says you cannot use Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG's)

I'm in the same situation, good to know i;m not alone!
I am stunned that an organisation as big and resource rich as Google can't get basic email functions to work. An image in your signature has been been basic functionality in Outlook for years. I am so annoyed with myself that I signed up to Google's business suite for my small business and the basics don't even work and there's no process for resolution or getting your money back. There isn't even a person you can speak to in Google for help on any of this stuff, your just stuck trying to figure it out for yourself, it is awful. Moral of the story is stick to Microsoft, they do email, word editing, spreadsheet etc etc so much better.

First, I have tried for months to do this! So, this post was my solution. First, I emailed myself the image. Then, I right-clicked on the image & copied the URL address. Then, I pressed on the icon (above the signature that looks like a mountain pic) & pasted the address there. IT WORKED! Thank you for your time to post this. :)

After many hours of testing and fail, seams like it's more simple them all the descriptions above!
Save the picture or logo to your Picasa album (I did in jpg maybe png works to) make sure is in the share mode (DON'T  turn on the other options)  save, open the album, open picture, THEM right click, open in a new window, maybe open in a new window again, COPY the web address, them paste to settings signature, URL, save, them you can adjust small, medium, large or original. Save again.

I got it to work, using a public photo sharing site!

You have to upload the file to a public photo sharing site.
I thought google drive would work, it didn't. So I followed instructions from above...
Use Google Photos
First, save photo/signature .jpg in Google Drive
Then go to Google Photos in your Google Suite
click upload in top right
select from drive.
Then right click on the desired photo/signature .jpg
Copy Image Address
Go back to the gmail gear icon
Go to settings
Go to signature
click on insert image
go to image url, right click, paste
Image will load, click save
go to bottom of settings, save changes.

There is a much simpler solution: When you are editing the signature under "Settings," rather than cutting and pasting the image or inserting it by dragging it in, click the "Insert image" picture in the formatting toolbar. Then upload your image that way.

If you see “Plain Text” above the signature box and don’t have any formatting options while creating your signature, here’s how to fix the problem:
  1. Click Compose.
  2. Click More options - bottom right 3 dots
  3. Deselect "Plain text mode."

I've spent hours and hours and HOURS trying to get a SIMPLE JPEG SIGNATURE into gmail. I've tried everything. Dropbox file hosting, online file hosting EVEN my own google drive. It appears, I save and then all I get is a blue box with a question mark. I've searched forums. It's been an issue for years now and I am SOOOOOOOOOOO over it. I've tried the whole 'emailing myself the logo.' It just will not register the signature. Ready to cancel my account. It should not be this hard GOOGLE!!!!!

You can’t directly upload a picture and use it as signature. Gmail only accepts the URL for the image file (the picture must be stored online). So if you don’t want to upload the file to a third party service, this tip is for you.
1) Select a photo/picture from your PC and send it to your mailbox (send yourself an email).
• Create a new email
• Drag and drop the image file in the message body field.
• In CC, enter your email address and click Sent.
2) Open the received email > right-click on the image file and select “Copy image URL”.
3) Click on “Settings” (small gear icon at the top right of your mailbox).
5) Click on “Settings”.
6) Scroll down to the Signature section.
7) Click on “Insert Image”.
8) Paste the URL of your image in appropriate field.
9) You shall have a preview of you picture, you can edit it (crop, resize..etc) before saving it.
As far as we know, these steps are not against Google policy because when emailing the photo to yourself, your photo file gets compressed, so it does not take as much space in the Google server.
We thank Kioskea and user ‘FC’ for sharing this information with the world.

I managed by opening Gmail from Explorer.
Following tips on this thread, I have closed all Google accounts first. Then opened Explorer and logged in Gmail. I went to settings, added the image to the signature input box and it worked.

When I tried to do the same in Chrome it didn't work even though I had signed out from all Google accounts.

Funny and ironic that you need Explorer to make a simple procedure work in Google. Clearly it must also mean that even when you sign out from Google account Google is still stalking you if you use Chrome!!

Many thanks to all that have contributed to find a solution. Good luck !
