Can't receive emails from one specific sender

A friend cannot sent emails to gmail addresses. Other mail accounts work, he was able to send me emails to other accounts of mine. The emails from him are not in the spam folder, they just never arrive in the gmail inbox. Tried to add him to my gmail contacts and to ignore filters in the settings, but still don't receive emails from him at gmail. He told me that his mailserver had problems with a virus longer ago, but the problem is fixed. Did anyone had a problem like this and got it solved?

Does he receive any bounce-back or delivery failure notification message? From which domain does he attempts to send you messages?

Typically, "A message might be blocked if it contains suspicious-looking or spammy text or if the sending IP has had a history of sending unsolicited messages.". The assessment is based on Gmail's interpretation of user interaction and feedback as one of the mediums to go with their internal algorithms, signals, and commonly known blacklists. So, have him check on the content and the signature of the message for any snippet of text, formatting, images or links can be perceived as spammy.

One prime reason Gmail may mark messages as Spam or bounce them back is due to non-compliance with their Senders Guidelines - https://support.google.com/mail/answer/81126?hl=en. So, if he is sending from an external domain, he needs to ensure the messages are authenticated as mentioned in the article.

He owns  a domain -- Can you include the name of the domain he is attempting to send you messages from? If leaving that information in an open forum like this is an issue, include that detail in a separate post and delete it after a minute allowing me to receive an email notification.
Thanks for the domain name.

A prima facie check https://mxtoolbox.com/emailhealth/domainname/ (you need to replace domainname with the actual domain name of your friend) came up with some errors and warnings. Please have your friend review those details.

Additionally, he also needs to ensure compliance with the guidelines mentioned here - https://support.google.com/mail/answer/81126?hl=en and also look at their email log to better understand what exactly is happening with their messages.  By email log, I mean this in the Google Workspace https://support.google.com/a/answer/11479100?hl=en, and he should have something similar for his domain that he uses to send from.
