How do i stop google from changing my default account? 0 Recommended Answers 8 Replies 5 Upvotes

Hello,

i have 3 Google accounts.
1. Chrome/Bookmark Sync
2. Gmail and YouTube Subscriptions
3. Business.

Up until now i was by default logged into my first account in my Chrome Browser and into my second  account on google.com and youtube.com.

But for the last few days google.com and youtube.com just uses my Chrome account by default. Is there a way to changed that back? It's the most annoying thing to have to log out of all accounts and back in every time i start my browser.

Greetings

Hi Gotar, the change that caused the Chrome account to become your primary account happened many months ago.  To open a second account, use Multiple sign in - click on the avatar then select Add Account.  Once you have added the required account(s), it will stay on the list for easy future selection.

Alternatively, you can create additional Chrome profiles that you can open separately for the required access.

I created the 2nd account but it STILL switches back at random. Sometimes in the middle of  browsing or trying to change settings. One account is for work the other is personal.

Hi Inzombiak, the best procedure is to create an additional Chrome profile for your business account.  These are the steps:
  1. From Chrome while signed into your personal account, click on the avatar in the top right corner just next to the configuration icon (three vertical dots).
  2. Select + Add
  3. Type in the business name
  4. Select a picture to make your Chrome icon easy to recognise
  5. Make sure the box is ticked beside Create a desktop icon for this profile
  6. Click Add
A new Chrome window will open.  In this window any account you sign into will be independent of those accounts in the default Chrome window.  You can sign out or leave them signed in.  You will see a new icon on the desktop that you can use to open this profile.

You can create as many Chrome profiles as you need using this process.  I have ten for managing various accounts for personal and business use.

You didn't read the question very carefully.   He's already created the 2nd acccount for his business but Google likes to switch back and forth between accounts at random.  How do i make Google sick to one account at a time.

Hi Solution Focused, I understood the question perfectly.  I provided a solution that avoids the problem.

The account that is signed into Chrome will always be the primary account for that Chrome profile.  If you are using a different browser, then the account you sign into first for any browser session will be the primary account until you sign out.

I have two google accounts. One is my personal account that has existed for decades.  Recently I opened another account for a project (not business).  The system always defaults to the latter and as the previous person said, it's so annoying to keep changing it back even though I never use the second account for emails or other day to day activities.

I have the same problem.  I have accessed my sons email on this computer.  Now every time my computer shuts down it goes to that account.  It also changed the password suggestion for my business account to my street name, never was a password.

I have removed all users except the one I want from the icon upper right.  It still defaults to my son, then street as the stored password

Hi John, quoting from above: "The account that is signed into Chrome will always be the primary account for that Chrome profile.  If you are using a different browser, then the account you sign into first for any browser session will be the primary account until you sign out."
