Less secure app access keeps disabling itself

I'm helping someone who is using Outlook 2010 as their mail client and using IMAP settings for Gmail. on multiple occassions, the 'Less secure app access' disables itself and then outlook starts prompting for his Gmail password. Once we go in and enable Less Secure Apps Access again, it works. The last time this happened, we made it 2 days before having to change it again. What gives? Do the newer versions of Outlook remove the need for this setting?

I don't know why it would be resetting itself, but, yes, newer versions of Outlook work without this setting.

Originally, we noticed the setting was being reset any time his google account password was changed. We then noticed, this wasn't the case. He's OK with getting a newer version of Office as it's about time anyway, but just thought it was odd behavior on the security setting.

The setting "Less secure app access" keeps disabling itself just a minute after my turning it "On". Please fix.

complete your profile by adding recovery phone and email. then turn on less secure app and provide the password again.
