Cannot add Google Account to MacOS Mojave 0 Recommended Answers 345 Replies 980 Upvotes

I'm trying to add my Google Account to my iMac (MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 with Safari 13.0).

I go the normal way: System Preferences > Internet Accounts > Google and get the normal dialog box: "Google Requires completing authentication in Safari."

When I click "Open Safari", Safari opens but doesn't load any URL. It just sits there forever with an empty page...

Any tips on how to fix this? I tried:
  • Rolling back to an older Safari: Mojave won't let me
  • Console logging: com.apple.preferences.internaccounts.remoteservice throws 2 errors:
    • Load failed with error Error Domain...
    • finished with error - code: -999
  • Disk Repair in hopes of fixing the above error: no errors found

I am having the same problem. Appeared to start after this most recent safari update as far as I can tell

Any ideas how to revert to an old Safari? I have Time Machine back-ups but it's not allowing me to overwrite Safari (I can copy an old Safari to a different location and run it that way, but Mojave then just ignores it)

Same issue here... I've tried both a Gmail.com account and a GSuite account, same result with both.

+ Restarting computer doesn't help.
+ Closing Safari and retrying doesn't help.
+ Keeping Safari open and retrying doesn't help.
+ Made sure Safari is default browser
+ Tried setting Chrome as default browser

There is a roundabout solution--I've generated a one-off app-specific password for Apple Mail in my online gmail account/security settings (I guess you need to have a 2-step verification set up already). Then I set up the mail as a generic mail ("Add Other Account" and not as Google account) in the "internet accounts" setting of my Mac and used this newly generated one-off password specific for this use. Very far from ideal, but it worked for now.
