My email is being used as recovery email for several accounts
5
In the past 24 hours I've received seven emails from "no-reply@accounts.google.com" in Russian, saying:
(Translated from Russian)
"This is a copy of the security alert sent to the [some random unknown email] account. The address [my email] is specified for it as a backup. If you do not recognize this account, unlink it.
Insecure apps are allowed to access your account [the same random unknown email]. Someone has allowed unsafe apps to access your account. If you didn’t do it, check the history of actions. View actions You can also see the security related activities on this page: https://myaccount.google.com/notifications"

As soon as I saw the first three mails like this (all about different emails using my email as their recovery), I changed my password and activated two-factor-authentification. But since, I have received four more like it.
It can't be just an accident that seven different accounts, all from Russia, has set my email as recovery and has a security breach within a day.
I am scared to click the "unlink account" link.

What should I do?

when someone  adds a new recovery address to their gmail address - or creates a new gmail address - and uses your address BY MISTAKE ( as their recovery address ) -  google sends you an email with a disavow link in it , please USE THE LINK  to remove the connection to your address   if you  no longer have that email and the link to remove it is not in the latest email you received -   then all you can do is to email those addresses and ask them to remove your address from their recovery option - please explain to them that this is a SECURITY RISK for them if they lose access to their account and they should comply , it  is NOT a security risk to you !!!!!
Remove your email address from someone else’s Google Account   http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1304777

here's some general info : never give out your password to emailed requests , any email from Google must **end** in google.com  ( so for example this can also be legit scoutcamp.bounces.google.com ) - but even if it does -  click the show details arrow and make sure the domain you see next to the 'mailed-by' or 'signed-by' lines matches the sender's email address. If you see messages claiming to be from google.com, but are not properly authenticated as coming from google.com, then they are  phishing messages.   Google will never ask you for your password (other than in their normal sign in screens, etc.). If you ever get an email asking you for your password , or threatening you with account deletion ,  you can be guaranteed that it isn't from Google/Gmail.

I have the same issue today.  This is not accidental.

Thank you for your quick answer!
I don't think it's just "by mistake" as you write. It seems highly unlikely to me that all seven made the same mistake and had a security breach within a day. But I checked the email details and it is authenticated as coming from Google, so I have unlinked them. So for now it solves the problem. Thanks!

google changed it to this below due to this thread you posted on

Verify your recovery email
Google received a request to use abc@gmail.com as a recovery email for Google Account xyz@gmail.com.

Use this code to finish setting up this recovery email:
*******

This code will expire in 24 hours.
