Suddenly, Google's security certificate is invalid

Yesterday, my PC froze. Thus, I had to reboot it after mending a suspected problem with the ram. Now that I have it working again, there is a warning window stating that the web site's (Google) security certificate has expired or is not valid.

I installed the certificate, and I still get the same window if I click on Gmail, or try to sign in, or re-install Google Chrome, which I uninstalled thinking that reinstalling it would mend the problem.

I even had to use a freind's PC to post this!!!

The certificate information is as follows:

issued to: mail.google.com

issued by: Thawte SGC CA

valid from 25/10/2011 to 30/09/2013

My question is:

A) is Thawte SGC CA a legitamate certificat authorizing site?

B) what can be done to mend this problem?

Check your computer's time-zone, time, and date settings.  That's the most common cause of certificate problems.

95% of the time it does.   :-)
