Email from Instagram for account verification not being received but password reset email works

Hi there,

Would love to get some help with this. I cannot access my Instagram account. I have tried to contact Instagram about this issue and they have not responded at all and do not make it easy to address this issue. In Instagram's help center, they say contact the email host to find out why the verification email from them is not being received. When I try the password reset option, the email appears and I can change the password. When I try to log in using the new password, it requires an account verification which is only an option by email. When I select 'send the verification email', nothing comes through. I have done the obvious like check my junk and spam inbox. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Many people have reported that they do not receive Instagram emails. ( click /mail/forum/AAAAK7un8RUkkyJ1lI5O5k?msgid=V-oVGnJgAAAJ )

The only solution we've come across is to report that the account is hacked so that you are able to speak with a real person because Instagram's help centre is a bit of a joke ever since facebook bought them out. Go here, fill out the form and say that you actually don't have access to your e-mail and add a secondary e-mail address for them to contact you. https://help.instagram.com/contact/740949042640030

So as it turns out, the option in the link you sent does not work anymore. Doesn't seem to be a way to let them know the account was hacked. They say reset the password, which I've done, but then when I try to log in, it still says the account needs to be verified, so I end up back in the same position

Yes, they removed the hacked account screen. Here is a new workaround!
  1. Open the Instagram app on your mobile device
  2. On the login screen, tap Get help signing in below Log In
  3. For more options:

    • On Android: Tap Use Username or Email, then enter your username. Tap  then tap Don't have access to any of these?
    • On iOS: Enter your username or email then tap Other issues? below Send Login Link. From there, follow the on-screen instructions.
When you do one of the above, you will get to a form and fill out with your info. For a reason, you can chose either "Hacked account" or "Other" and in the description/note portion write this: I am unable to get back into my account because I don't get the 6 digit security code. My e-mail is properly linked to my account because I am able to reset my password and get update emails from Instagram. I just do not get the 6 digit verification code and so I cannot get into my account. I do not know how my account got locked or was flagged suspicious so my account may have been hacked. Please assist. Thank you."

Once you do this, it takes around 2-3 business days for them to respond with an e-mail asking for you to take a photo, holding a white piece of paper, with your username, full name, and the code they give you. Follow the specifications carefully because if anything is missing (hands are not clearly and fully visible//face is too dark//picture is low quality), they will not respond. If they don't respond, take a look at the picture you sent and review the instructions. Something may have been missing. After you submit a proper photo which fits 100% with the criteria they list, a REAL PERSON will respond in about 3-4 business days with a link and more instructions.
