Can't sync google accounts on Android phone after last update

After the last update on my phone on 1/16/2014 I keep getting the error message "Account Action Required" "Couldn't Sign In. You typed an incorrect password or your account has changed. Re-type your password. If you forgot your password and need to recover your account click here."

I have tried re-typing password, restarting phone, clicking the link and allowing access on the phone, removing the google accounts and reinstalling them.

I am having this issue with both google accounts. One is a standard gmail account and the other is a google apps account.

I am also in Ecuador using wifi only, not a cell tower. I have been here previously without issues until the update on 1/16/14 and then the issues started happening. Occasionally it will sync but then I will just start getting the error message again and it stops syncing.

I am running 19.5.3.obake-maxx_verizon.Verizon.n.US on a Droid Maxx with Android 4.4.

Any thoughts??

Same phone and exactly the same problem. I updated a couple days ago, now I'm on a business trip up in Montreal, Canada. When the plane landed and I turned my phone back on and this issue came up. This sounds like its a Verizon back-end issue. Having trouble negotiating with service from other carriers cell towers. I will be back in California on Friday I will let you know if it starts working again when I get back to the states.

Nick, please let us know. I feel I've tried everything. Shouldn't be this difficult to correct this mess. Really wish I would not have updated phone, but who would have known this would happen. I imagine I will just have to wait till u get back to states. Thanks ahead of.time

It seems you are all away from home?  If so, it's possible that your access via strange IP addresses is being challenged. Gmail will regularly challenge accesses made when you are away from your normal location and cannot be recognised by the system as "you", in case you are an unauthorised third party who has harvested the account username and password from elsewhere.

To find out what you need to do, switch to your phone's browser and try signing in from there. You should be given more information about what is happening and what you need to do to regain access to your account.  Sometimes you may need to change your password or receive a code on your phone as verification.

I have been experiencing the same issue on the same phone. I may have solved it by clicking the hyperlink for if you having trouble signing in or don't know your username/password that appears when you open the notification. Select "I know my username and password but can't sign in" then "I can't sign into a device or non-browser application". It will direct you to https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha. Navigate to that URL from your phone's browser, and click Continue. It seemed to clear up the problem for me, but it's only been a few hours so I'm not certain yet.

I have tried that link and it only clears the problem up for me for about 2 minutes then I get the same alerts again.

Verizon level 2 tech walked me through a chrome force stop from apps screen. uninstall, cache clear and reinstall appears to have solved...for now. It will also clear your gmail and reinstall it automatically. Worked with wifi on, mobile data off.

Russ can you detail the steps you took with links etc? I have no way to contact verizon tech support as I am in Ecuador. Thanks!

Settings, apps, chrome, force stop, uninstall updates, clear data, clear cache. cycle phone off. Click on chrome to reinstall and re-enter account info.

That didnt work for me. My problem seems to be with my google account sign in on my phone. It just will not sign into my google account for any apps...chrome, gmail, hangouts, play store, etc. None of them are working at all.

thanks LPJ! it worked!
Google on the App Password setting informed that old android and some old applications couldn't verify a 2-step verification g-account. so you have to generate new special password for the applications.
