Can't "Revert to the old look "

The new GMail-UI (2011-11) is not responding when opening mails and every other actions only consists of "loading..." and a freezing web-pages.

I read "Having trouble with Gmail's new look? Read this first."
but the "Revert to the old look "  isn't there.

Hi Marcus,

I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble with the new look. I've attached some information that might help. I'd suggest starting with clearing your cache & cookies, and try running Firefox in Safe Mode. You might not have any extensions that modify Gmail, but other extensions could still be interfering.

If you need to switch back to the old look, there are 2 gear icons: one at the very top right, and one lower down, on the right corner of the toolbar next to < >. If you don't see it, you might be using Multiple Inboxes -- try https://mail.google.com/mail/?labs=0 to turn it off.

Best,
Sarah

One more thing -- if Safe Mode helps, could you tell me what extensions you do have installed? If an extension is the culprit, I'd love to figure out which one.

Thanks,
Sarah

After a few reloads the second gear-icon appeared and I was able to revert to the old look.
Now everything responds instantly.

Thanks for information on reverting back to the old look. I did not like the contrast options with the new look. I tried different themes but it did not work for me. I hope that I can have the option of keeping the old look.

Most of the buttons in the new look do not have images on them and I don't like the layout of the new look. I also have to re-load many times during the day as it hangs.

Hey everyone, this thread is quite old and so I am going to close it after this post to prevent confusion, as Gmail has changed in the interim.

abrucewebb, you have great points. We have been notifying the administrators of our business customers about the changes to Gmail every step along the way. It has been almost a year since we began the transition: the preview theme was released last June, and the full interface has been available since November. Any transition is difficult, but we're committed to the current interface for Gmail and will be retiring the old look.

The classic look is available here:

Please also see this guide to learn about your customization options, like changing your buttons to have text labels or reducing the amount of space between messages.

Best,
Sarah
