"Send mail as" Outlook address in Gmail

My university email just migrated to Outlook, and I've run into a problem trying to link it so that I can receive and send messages through my Gmail account. Actually, I can receive just fine.
I'm running into a problem trying to set it up so that I can send as my Outlook address from within Gmail.

When attempting to "add another email address you own" in order to send mail as, I keep getting the following error message:

"Authentication failed. Please check your username/password.
[Server response: read error: generic::deadline_exceeded: read timeout code(0) ]"

I've used the SMTP settings provided by Outlook

"SMTP setting
Server name: smtp.office365.com
Port: 587
Encryption method: TLS"

but it's not working. I think that the Outlook WebApp is a relatively new version (?), so any info I've tried to find is outdated.

Outlook 365 seems to use localised servers. You might find the solution in this topic useful.

  • Post an answer.
  • Having your answer selected as the best answer.
  • Having your post rated as helpful.
  • Vote up a post.
  • Correctly mark a topic or post as abuse.

Having a post marked and removed as abuse will slow a user's advance in levels.
