How do I place Gmail on my computer so I can get to it from my desktop rather than going through AOL search?

Windows XP
I now access Gmail thgrough my AOL acct - search
No Norton; others are used
I don't understand your last ?  I have a printer and a remote backup hard drive.

I hopo I don't have to repaet myself all the time!
 
Do you have live customer service line?  I would prefer that.

Go to https://mail.google.com

Make a browser bookmark.

Drag the bookmark to your desktop. It won't have the GMail icon, but  will probably have your browser's icon, however it will be a serviceable link. 

If you use Chrome, you can enable Application shortcuts and have a GMail icon on your desktop, your start menu or in your taskbar - or in all three.
