Its regarding a deleted email address & the fact that its still showing on my htc senstaion 4g.

Always include:

Device:HTC Sensation 4g
Carrier: T Mobile
Country / Language: USA/ English
OS / Browser / build number (if applicable):

I recently got a new gmail address & deleted my old one. On my phone, in the notification bar, it says there is a sign-in error for my old email address. When I click on it says: "You entered the wrong password or your account has changed. Please re-enter your password" and just under the message, there is a sign in button. When I access gmail through my phone it still shows I have both accounts & when I click on the old one, it says "authentication error" & that same sign in box comes up again trying to get me to enter a password. Does anyone know how I can get rid of this? Or is this something I need to go to T-Mobile with?  Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like you deleted your old address from your desktop but your phone still thinks it exists. You can visit Settings > Accounts & sync and see if the account's email address is still listed there.

If it is still there and if it's the second, third, or later account you added to the phone you can remove it by tapping on the email address and then tapping the Remove account button. If it's the first account you added to your phone, however, then you can't remove the primary account from your phone. Instead you'll need to reset the phone using Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset, after which you can enter your new Gmail address as the primary account.

(Note that Android 3.0 and 4.0 have removed this need for a primary account, but I think your HTC Sensation is running Android 2.3 which does require it.)

Hello Paul

I have the same problem with an extra complication. All my android apps are synced to that address so if I reset my phone I will lose those apps. How do I get around this?

Bumasks if you removed the account from your phone, if you add it back again from Settings > Accounts & sync you can re-download the apps.

If you deleted the original Google Account as outlined at http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32046 then you can attempt the recovery options as outlined at that link, however if it isn't recoverable you'll no longer have access to the apps.

Paul,

I have a different situation where I have bought a used phone and another person's e-mail address is blocking me from accessing so many things on the phone. I can't even get to the android apps market because there is no option to change the e-mail address. WTF? I have tried doing the restore to factory settings multiple times but the address still shows up everywhere.

What can I do please. I love the phone and want to use it but am very limited.

Thanks so much for any help!

firemom233 and Dilynn, try doing a Google search for the model name of your phone and the words [ factory data reset ] or [ hard reset ]. This will usually offer up a few web pages with instructions on how to totally wipe your phone.
