Use Dark mode in Gmail

You can change your Gmail theme setting to make it easier to view messages on your mobile device. You can use the dark theme setting to save your battery life.

Change your theme setting

Tip: This feature is only available on Android devices version Q or later.

You can choose between dark, light, or your device’s default theme:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app .
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu .
  3. Tap Settings and then General settings.
  4. Tap Theme.
  5. Choose Light, Dark, or System default.
