Sign out of Gmail

Depending on what device you use Gmail on, you can either sign out of Gmail, remove your Google Account, or switch between different accounts.

The only way to sign out of the Gmail app is to remove your entire account from your phone or tablet.

However, you can do many of the same tasks through other actions.

Sign out options

Remove your Google Account from your device

When you remove an account, it removes the account from all apps on the device. When your account is removed, you won’t be signed in to any Google products, like Maps or YouTube.

This option is good if you want to remove personal information from your device before you give it to someone else.

Note: Removing the account from your phone or tablet won't delete the account itself, so you'll still be able to use it on a computer or other devices.

  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Find the section for "Accounts".
  3. Remove the account.
Check email from another account

Tip: If you share a device with other people, try adding them as separate users or adding them as a guest on your device.

You'll only see the option to check email from a non-Gmail email account if you're using an updated version of the Gmail app. If these steps don't work, try updating the Gmail app and then trying again.

  1. Open the Gmail app Gmail app.
  2. In the top left, tap Menu Menu.
  3. To the right of your username, tap Down arrow Down Arrow.
  4. Tap Add account.
  5. Choose the type of account you want to add.
  6. Follow the steps on the screen to add your account.
  7. Return to the Gmail app home page.
  8. In the top left, tap Menu Menu.
  9. To the right of your username, tap Down arrow Down Arrow.
  10. Tap the account you want to use.
