Spell check Gmail messages

You can check the spelling of your emails before you send them.

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. At the top left, click Compose.
  3. Write your message.
  4. At the bottom right, click More Moreand thenCheck spelling.

Fix misspelled words as you type

When you misspell a word, Gmail can automatically fix it with Autocorrect. This only applies if you use Gmail for work, school, or another organization.

To turn on Autocorrect:

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. In the top right, click Settings Settingsand then Settings.
  3. Under “General,” scroll to “Autocorrect.”
  4. Select Autocorrect on.

Note: A dashed line will temporarily appear under the changed word. To undo a spell change, click the underlined word and then Undo.

Use Autocorrect with a screen reader

You can still use Autocorrect with a screen reader. To undo a change, use your arrow keys to find the underlined word, and then press Tab and then Enter.
