Using spell-check

It's easy to check your spelling while composing Gmail messages. Here's how:

  1. Click the down arrowMore options drop-down arrow next to the "Discard draft" icon Discard draft icon at the bottom of your compose window.
  2. Click Check spelling.
  3. If there's a misspelled word, it will be highlighted in yellow. Click the misspelled word to see Gmail's suggestions for similar words.
  4. Select a suggested word from the list to replace the misspelled word.
Gmail's spellchecker operates in the same language you've selected to display your Gmail account.

This feature is not available in Gmail's basic HTML view.

Automatic spell check: Gmail doesn't have automatic spell-check. Auto spell-check may be provided by your browser, so if you need to turn off or adjust the automatic spell-check settings, please refer to the help instructions provided by the browser you're using.
