Use Gmail offline in classic Gmail

You can read, respond to, and search your Gmail messages when you aren't connected to the Internet by installing the Gmail Offline app for Chrome.

Install Gmail Offline

When you install Gmail Offline, your messages will sync with your browser's storage on the computer you're using. If you're using a public or shared computer, don't install Gmail Offline because others who use the computer could see your messages.

  1. Visit the Gmail Offline page in the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Click Add to Chrome and then Add app.
  3. In Chrome, visit chrome://apps.
  4. Click Gmail offline Gmail Offline
  5. Click Allow offline mail and then Continue.

After the app is installed, your messages will start syncing. If you close Google Chrome while your messages are syncing, sync will stop.

I have multiple Gmail accounts, but I only see one in Gmail Offline

Here's how to add messages from another Gmail account into your Gmail Offline app:

  1. Visit chrome://apps.
  2. Click Gmail Offline.
  3. In the bottom left, click your email address.
  4. Click Sign in to another account.
  5. Follow the steps on screen to sign in to your other account.
My messages stopped syncing

If you close Google Chrome, your messages will stop syncing.

Open Google Chrome again to start sync.

"The app is currently unreachable" error

You might see this error if you use Gmail with a work or school account that gives you access to all your accounts after only one sign-in.
To fix this issue, ask your administrator to:
  1. Change your Chrome policies and change your cookies settings.
  2. Turn off SAML.
  3. Sync your password.
