If you want to clean up your inbox without deleting your emails, you can archive or mute them. Your emails are moved to a label called "All Mail."
- When you archive a message: The message will come back to your inbox when someone replies to it.
- When you mute a message: Any replies stay out of your inbox. You can search for the conversation if you want to find it again.
Choose your archive or delete settings
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app

- In the top left, tap Menu
.
- Tap Settings

- Tap Archive or Delete. Deleted messages are permanently removed from the Trash after 30 days.
- Scroll down to the "Action confirmations" section and choose if you want confirmation before archiving or deleting messages.
Archive a message
If you selected Archive in the setting above, you can archive your messages two ways:
- From inside a message, tap Archive

- From your inbox, swipe the message to the right or left.
Tip: You can change your Gmail settings to quickly take this action by swiping left or right on messages in your messages list.
To archive multiple messages, select the messages, then tap Archive .
Note: Even if you chose Delete in the default setting above, you can archive a message by opening it and tapping Archive .
Find or move messages you archived
When you search in Gmail, your results will include any messages that have been archived.

The All mail label is added to any message. If a message has been archived, you can find it by opening the All mail label.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app

- Tap All mail.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app

- Open an email message.
- In the top right, tap More
.
- Tap Move to Inbox.
Mute or ignore messages
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app
.
- Open the conversation. If you want to stay in your inbox, tap the sender's profile image.
- In the top right, tap More
Mute.
