Privacy settings

Your iPhone or iPad has privacy settings that control how Gmail can use information on your device, like your contacts and photos.

If you want to access your device's contacts or photos while using Gmail, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Privacy.
  3. Tap Contacts or Photos.
  4. Switch the "Gmail" setting on.

You can always revoke or change these settings by going back to your device's Settings app.

"Gmail would like to access…"

When you add contacts or photos from your device to a message for the first time, you'll see this prompt.

By tapping OK, you’ll allow Gmail to:

  • Autocomplete contacts from your device when you write messages
  • Access your photo library only when you attach photos to your messages
