Create a Google Account for Gmail

A Google Account lets you sign in to Gmail and other Google services, such as YouTube, Google Play, Google Drive and Photos.

Sign up for a Google Account

Important: Before you create a new Google Account, sign out of your current account. Learn how to sign out of Gmail.

  1. From your device, go to the Google Account sign-in page.
  2. Click Create account.
  3. Choose your account type:
    • For my personal use
    • For my child
    • For work or business
  4. To finish, follow the on-screen instructions.

The username that I want is taken

You can't register a Gmail address if the username that you requested is:

  • Already being used.
  • Very similar to an existing username.
    • For example, if example@gmail.com already exists, you can't use examp1e@gmail.com.
  • The same as a username that someone used in the past and then deleted.
  • Reserved by Google to prevent spam or abuse.
