You can choose a personal photo or illustration as your Gmail profile picture. When you send an email or chat, your profile picture can appear:
- Next to your name.
- In notifications for messages you send to other Gmail users.
Important:
- Your Gmail profile picture is the same as your Google Account picture and can appear in other Google services. Learn how to change your Google Account picture, name, and other info.
- If you don’t have a photo, your initials show in your profile picture instead.
- If you change your profile picture, it can take some time for it to update across all Google products associated with your account.
Change your profile picture
- On your computer, open Gmail.
- At the top right, click Profile

- Select a profile picture option:
- Browse illustrations
- Upload from Device
- Take a picture
- Google Photos
- Optional: Rotate and crop your profile photo.
- Click Next
Save as profile picture.
Tips:
- If you use Google Photos, it recommends photos to use. Learn more about face groups in Google Photos.
- Your profile picture is used across all Google services. Your other photos aren’t shared. Learn how to control what others see about you across Google services.
Find an old profile picture
- On your computer, open Gmail.
- At the top right, click Profile
