Add or remove inbox categories & tabs in Gmail
We get a lot of different types of email: messages from friends, social notifications, deals and offers, confirmations and receipts, and more. All of these emails can compete for our attention and make it harder to focus on the things we need to get done. Finding those important emails among the clutter can become frustrating and time consuming.
Categories offer an easy way to automatically sort emails so you don't see all of them at once. You simply choose which categories you want and voilà! Your inbox is organized in a way that lets you see what’s new at a glance and decide which emails you want to read when.
Messages in your inbox are sorted into categories, like Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates, and Forums. When you open your inbox, you will see the Primary category first. You can easily customize the new inbox, to select the categories you want, or move messages yourself from one category to another. You can also make sure that certain messages appear in your Primary inbox.
