You can create labels that store your emails. Add as many labels as you want to an email.
Note: Labels are different from folders. If you delete a message, it will be erased from every label that it’s attached to and your entire inbox.
Add a label to a message
Add a label to a single message
- Make sure you've downloaded the Gmail app.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app
.
- Open a message. (If you want to stay in your inbox, tap the sender's profile image.)
- In the top right, tap More
Change labels.
- Check the boxes next to the labels you want to add.
- In the top right, tap Apply
.
Add a label to multiple messages
- Make sure you've downloaded the Gmail app.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app
.
- On the left, tap the sender's profile image next to the messages you want to label.
- In the top right, tap More
Change labels.
- Check the boxes next to the labels you want to add.
- In the top right, tap Apply
.
Move a message to another label
- Make sure you've downloaded the Gmail app.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app
.
- Open the message. (If you want to stay in your inbox, tap the sender's profile image.)
- In the top right, tap More
Change labels.
- Uncheck the boxes next to the current labels, then select new labels.
- In the top right, tap Apply
.
Automatically label messages
If you want to automatically add labels to specific messages, such as from a certain sender, follow these steps.
- Make sure you've downloaded the Gmail app.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app

- In the top left, tap Menu
.
- Scroll to the bottom, then tap Settings.
- Tap your account.
- Tap Label settings, then tap a label name. If you don't see a label you want to use, create a new label first.
- Tap Add.
- In the "From" field, type a name or email address. To add more search criteria, like a subject or keyword, tap And.
- In the top right corner, tap Save.
Note: Only new messages that match these criteria will be automatically added to the label.

Note: Only you can see the labels that are added to your messages.
Create a label
- Make sure you've downloaded the Gmail app.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app

- Tap the Menu

- Under "Labels," tap Create new.
- Type a name.
- Tap Done.
Edit label
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app
.
- Tap Menu

- Tap the account
Label settings.
- Select the label you want to edit/delete.
- Tap Name.
- Create a new name.
- Tap Done.

- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app
.
- Tap Menu
Settings
.
- Tap the account
Label settings.
- Select the label you want to edit/delete.
- Tap Delete.
