Create labels to organize Gmail

You can create labels that store your emails. Your mailbox can support up to 10,000 labels.

Note: Labels are different from folders. If you delete a message, it will be erased from every label that it’s attached to and your entire inbox.

Add a label to a message

Create, edit & delete labels

1. Make sure you've downloaded the Gmail app.
2. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app .
3. Tap the Menu .
4. Under "Labels," tap Create new.
5. Type a name.
6. Tap Done.
