Change your Gmail background

You can pick a theme to change your Gmail background. On a computer, you can make your background: 

• The default theme.
• Dark mode theme. 
• Other available themes.
• Your own uploaded photo. 

Important: To save battery and make it easier to view messages on mobile, change your theme to Dark mode.

Important: Dark mode is only available on Android devices version Q or later.

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app .
2. At the top left, tap Menu .
3. Tap Settings  General settings.
4. Tap Theme.
5. Choose Light, Dark, or System default.
