We've gotten reports about some users being signed out of their accounts unexpectedly. We're investigating, but not to worry: there is no indication that this is connected to any phishing or account security threats. Please try to sign-in again at accounts.google.com and if you cannot remember your password, please use this link to recover your password. If you use 2-Step Verification, there may have been a delay in receiving your SMS code. Please try again or use backup codes.

Change email notifications

You can turn on notifications to get alerts on your phone or computer when you get new emails.

Step 1: Choose what kind of notifications to get

If you have multiple accounts in the Gmail app, you need to change this setting for each account.

  1. Open the Gmail app Gmail.
  2. In the top left, tap Menu Menu.
  3. Scroll to the bottom, then tap Settings.
  4. Tap your account.
  5. In the "Notifications" section, select which types of emails you want notifications for, such as All New Mail or None.

When you see a notification on your iPhone or iPad, you can swipe the message to the left, then tap View and then Archive or Reply All.

Step 2: Pick your notification settings on your device

  1. Go to your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Notifications and then Gmail.
  3. Choose your notification settings, including sounds.

Note: To check how many unread messages you have, tap the Menu Menu. If you use the default inbox layout, your profile image will show the number of unread messages in your Primary category.
