Manage the Gmail widget

Add the Gmail app widget to your home screen

Important: This feature is only available for iPhones and iPads running iOS 14 or later.

Follow the instructions below to add a Gmail app widget on your device's home screen. To add a widget to multiple accounts, follow the instructions on how to switch accounts.

If you recently installed the Gmail app, you may need to open the app before the widget appears in the widget gallery.

To add the Gmail app widget:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, touch and hold the home screen.
  2. In the top left, tap Add Plus.
  3. Tap the Gmail app.
  4. Tap Add Widget.
  5. Place the widget on your home screen.
  6. Tap Done.

How to switch accounts

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, touch and hold the Gmail app widget.
  2. Tap Edit and then Switch account.
  3. Select the account that you want to use.

Add and configure your lock screen widget

Important: 

  • This feature is only available for iOS 16 and up
  • To use this feature, you must have the Gmail app installed on your iOS device.
  1. On your lock screen, tap and hold the clock.
  2. At the bottom, tap Customise.
  3. To add customisation, tap the lock screen.
  4. Tap Add widgets.
  5. In the widget gallery, find the widget that you want to add.
  6. Tap the widget or drag it to the widget bar underneath the clock.
  7. In the widget bar, tap the widget that you want to configure.
  8. Select your preferred configuration.
  9. Tap Done and then Set as wallpaper pair.
  10. To end the customisation, tap the lock screen.

Configure an existing lock screen widget

  1. On your lock screen, tap and hold the clock.
  2. At the bottom, tap Customise.
  3. To add customisation, tap the lock screen.
  4. In the widget bar, tap an existing widget twice.
  5. Select your preferred configuration.
  6. Tap Done and then Set as wallpaper pair.
  7. To end the customisation, tap the lock screen.
