Fix issues with Google Kids Space

Report apps

You can flag an app or game for inappropriate content.

1. In the bottom right, press and hold the Parent menu  .
2. Tap Add other content.
3. Tap Go to Google Play.
4. In the Play Store, go to the detail page for the app or game.
5. Tap More   Flag as inappropriate.
6. Choose a reason.
7. Tap Submit.

Find an app

1. Go to the Play tab.
2. Tap My Apps.

Block or unblock an app

To block an app:

1. Touch and hold the icon of the app you want to block on the device.
2. On the overflow menu, tap Block this app.
3. On the confirmation menu, tap Yes. 

 

To unblock an app: 

1. In the Family Link app, on the "Apps installed" card, tap View all apps.
2. Under "Limits", find the app you want to allow.
3. Turn the allowed app on.

Note: You can also block and unblock apps with Family Link.

Remove account

1. In the bottom right, press and hold the Parent menu .
2. Tap on Device Settings.
3. Tap Users & accounts  the Google Account you want to remove  Remove account.
   • If you can't find Remove account, at the top right, tap More  Remove account.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove your child's account.

Free up device storage

If memory space on your device fills up, select apps to uninstall.

1. In the bottom right, press and hold the Parent menu .
2. Tap Free up space.
3. Tap Go to Google Play. 
4. On the right, select the content you would like to remove and tap the FREE UP [X] MB button.
5. In the notification that appears, to uninstall those apps, tap FREE UP [X] MB.

Add content to Kids Space

You can add apps and books to Kids Space through the Google Play store:

1. In the bottom right, press and hold the Parent menu .
2. Tap Add other content.
3. Tap Go to Google Play.
4. Search for books or apps that you would like to add to Kids Space. Before you add them, you have to approve the download and, for paid content, approve the purchase request.
   • Apps appear in the Play tab under "My apps".
   • Books appear in the Read tab under "My books".

You can also add books to Kids Space when you share them through the Family Library.

Update Google Play Books

When you try to update Google Play Books, you may encounter the message: “Parental controls restrict downloading of this item.”

You can update Google Play Books this way:

1. In the bottom right, press and hold the Parent menu .
2. Tap Add other content.
3. Tap Go to Google Play.
4. Tap the menu at the top left.
5. Tap My apps & games.
6. Search for Google Play Books under "Updates". 
7. Tap Update.

Change if you need prior approval to download recommended apps

1. In the Family Link app, select your child.
2. Tap Manage settings Google Kids Space settings App approvals.
3. Choose your preferred setting.

Google Kids Space won't download YouTube Kids or other apps

If your child can't download YouTube Kids or other apps on their device, clear the cache and data of the Play Store and Google Kids Space apps.

1. Go to the Parent Menu  and tap Device settings.
2. Tap Apps & notifications See all apps.
3. Find and tap Google Play Store .
4. Tap Storage Clear cache Clear data.
5. Go back to the list of apps and find and tap Google Kids Space .
6. Tap Storage Clear cache Clear data.
7. Press the home button and try to install apps again.
