Add users to a device

Some Android tablets support multiple users, so you can share a device with family members while keeping your stuff separate. All users have their own spaces on the device for custom Home screens, accounts, apps, settings, and more. Each child user can set up Google Kids Space with their own special character, interests, and content.

Similarly, a supervised child and an adult can share a tablet when each creates a separate user profile.

Important:

  • To add more users if the first user is a supervised child account, update your settings in Family Link.
  • There may be some differences based on device manufacturers, since they have some control over setup flow.

Step 1: Allow additional users in Family Link.

Important:

  • If your child is the primary user, you may need to change settings in Family Link to allow your child to add a user.
  • If the primary user is not a child, skip to Step 2.
  1. Open the Family Link app Family Link.
  2. Select your child.
  3. Tap Controls and then Devices.
  4. Select your child's device.
  5. Turn on Add/Remove user
Tip: You can also manage your child's account by clicking on your child's name at families.google.com.

Step 2: Add another user to the device

On your device:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Search for “users.”
  3. Tap Users and then Add user or profile.
  4. Follow the on screen instructions.

In Google Kids Space:

  1. Tap and hold the Parent menu .
  2. Tap Device settings.
  3. Search for “users.”
  4. Tap Users and then Add user or profile.
  5. Follow the on screen instructions.

Step 3: Prevent your child from adding more users

You can make sure your child can’t add other users.

  1. On your device, open the Family Link app Family Link.
  2. Select your child.
  3. Tap Controls and then Devices.
  4. Select your child's device.
  5. Turn off Add/Remove user.
Tip: If you add other profiles, your Family Link settings for your child's account won't apply to those profiles. It's important to use security measures to protect additional profiles. This helps prevent your child from switching users and bypassing parental settings. Make sure to set a screen lock for any new users you’ve created. If you have an adult profile on the tablet, check that you have a pin or password set up with that profile to ensure your child cannot access other profiles.

Delete a child user from the device

On your device:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Search for “users.”
  3. Tap Users and then the user profile that you want to remove and then Delete user.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

In Google Kids Space:

  1. Tap and hold the Parent menu .
  2. Select Device settings.
  3. Search for “users.”
  4. Tap Users and then the user profile that you want to remove and then Delete user.
