The #jamboard Android app or @googledrive Android App on Chromebook no longer allows you to open a Jam on nearby Jamboard kiosk as it doesn't display any nearby kiosks. It ironically works in Drive in the Chrome browser on the Chromebook. Kiosk BT was turned on We tried on 3 devices a Lenovo 300E Chromebook, Pixel Slate, and a Samsung S9+ Android phone. All 3 had Bluetooth turned on plus were connected to same network. The kiosk only showed up on the Android phone within the Android app. For the time being, our inconvenient work around, Unfortunately, involves at least 3 steps to attempt to bypass this issue, which still produced some glitches. First, Display the prepared Jam from web/Drive for Chrome to Kiosk. Then close out of the web edition on the Chromebook and opened up the jam in the Android app as it has better stylus control.

Hi Adam, thanks for filing this.

I've seen this before on one of our domains and finally tracked it down to G Suite admin settings. The issue appears to be that for nearby to work, location services need to be enabled for Android apps running on Chrome OS.

You can see if this is the issue by checking the Android settings on your Chrome OS device:
  • To open Android settings:
    • Open (Chrome OS) Settings via the device menu bar
    • Select "Google Play Store" from the "Apps" section
    • Select "Manage Android preferences"
  • Select "Google" (subtitle "Services & preferences")
  • Open Location:
    • Chromebook: select "Location"
    • Slate: select "Account services", then "Location"
  • If "Use location" is disabled, that's the issue.
The steps below worked to enable Location services for Chromebook and Slate. Would you try the below and let me know how it goes? There may be a long delay (~24 hours) until the setting change propagates to the device, though I've only seen that in a few cases.
  • Go to admin.google.com for your domain
  • Select "Devices"
  • In the "DEVICE SETTINGS" menu on the left, choose "Chrome management"
  • From the list of options on the next page, select "User & browser settings"
  • Find the "Google location services" item in the "Android applications" section
    • If it's set to "Disable location services for Android apps in Chrome OS", change it to "Allow the user to decide...". Then try nearby board in Jamboard again and let me know how it goes.
    • If it's already set to "Allow the user to decide...", follow up and let me know that.
Cheers!
