Move emails in & out of labels

Emails in your inbox can show up in two ways:

  • Bundled together in a label, like Promos or Finance
  • Individually (directly in your inbox)

You can move emails in and out of labels so they'll always be where you want them.

Move into a label

Move into an existing label

You can move emails from one label to another, or from your inbox into a label.

  1. Open an email in your inbox.
  2. In the top right, select Move to More.
  3. Choose a label listed under one of options below.

Bundled in the inbox

To always put emails from this sender or email list in this label, select Always do this in the black bar at the bottom.

Now you'll see your email inside the label in your inbox.

Unbundled or Skip the inbox label

Your email will be marked done and moved into that label. You can find your email by going to the Menu Menu and then Select the label.

Tip: Learn more about labels to automatically add emails to a label or bundle a label in your inbox.

Move into a new label

Move out of a label

You can move emails so they show up directly in your inbox instead of bundled together.

Move a single email

If there's an email in a bundled label in your inbox that you want to get back to, open the email and select Pin Pin. You'll see the email directly in your inbox, as well as inside the label.

Always show an email in your inbox

If an email doesn't belong in a label, remove your email from the label so that it shows up in your inbox.

  1. Open an email in your inbox.
  2. In the top right, select Move to More.
  3. Choose the Remove from option.
  4. Select Always do this in the black bar at the bottom.
  5. Check to make sure your email is directly in your inbox and not in a label.

If you don't see the email in your inbox, it might be in one or more labels, such as Low Priority or any custom labels.

Once you find your email, select Move to More and then Choose Remove from. You may have to repeat these steps.

Have emails skip the inbox

If there's a type of email you don't want to show in your inbox at all, you can set up a label that skips the inbox.
