About Book on Google for Hotels

Book on Google for Hotels enables users to complete their booking and payment with partners directly on Google, without being redirected to the partner’s site. Users who are signed in to their Google account can complete their hotel reservation easily with the payment information stored in their Google account.

Users can also book and pay without having to sign in to a Google account — once the user has entered their booking and payment information, Google will securely pass these details to the partner, who will complete the booking and process the payment.

Once users have finished making their reservation on the transaction page, the partner will confirm the reservation directly with the user and provide customer support as needed.

For travelers:

  • Simple user experience. There’s no need to enter payment or other booking information already stored in a Google account.
  • Convenience. Users can complete bookings quickly, without needing to visit more than one website.
  • Confidence. Google securely stores payment information, and users know that their reservation is being handled by an approved partner.

For partners:

  • Easier conversions. Encourage purchases by streamlining conversion.
  • Keep ownership of data and relationship with guests. Google passes all the booking and payment details to the partner behind the scenes. The partner owns and manages the customer relationship.

How it works

Users can book rooms with Book on Google through two Hotel Ads entry points that appear on the details page within Google Hotel Search: the Standard Booking Module, where partners must configure the link to take the user to the checkout flow rather than the partner’s site, and the Room Booking Module, which automatically directs all users to the checkout flow.

The Standard Booking Module

The Standard Booking Module (SBM) lists each partner’s price for the customer’s chosen itinerary. They can adjust their itinerary in the SBM and see updated offers instantly.

The Room Booking Module

The Room Booking Module (RBM) is available exclusively to partners on Book on Google who have opted in and have excellent hotel coverage (ie. multiple markets) and content quality. Users can browse multiple rooms per hotel, sorted by the partner offering the room.

It features room-specific content:

  • Photos
  • Rates
  • Titles
  • Amenities

The RBM will appear in addition to and below the SBM. While booking links in the SBM will continue to deeplink to partner sites, users who select a room with the RBM will see the Google-hosted reservation and payment page without being redirected to the partner’s site. Partners cannot deeplink to the Book on Google checkout flow.

The SBM and RBM are both available in these countries:

Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The Book on Google checkout flow

When users select a booking in the RBM, they’ll be directed to the Google checkout flow, where they’ll review and pay for their reservation.

In the checkout flow, Google gathers the user’s payment details and some personal information (first and last name, email address and phone number), some of which may have been previously saved to the user’s Google Pay or Google account. The raw payment data is sent to the partner over an HTTPS connection. The user’s personal information is securely passed to the partner to complete the booking and process the payment, if applicable.

The escape hatch link

Book on Google pages feature the option for partners to include an "escape hatch" link that allows users to complete their booking on the partner website associated with their booking. This link will take them directly to the partner’s page for the hotel they’ve chosen.

Book on Google gives partners the option to have their logo appear at the top of the checkout page for the rooms they advertise. The user is reminded that they’re booking with the partner, and that the partner will handle customer support once the user’s booking has been completed.

Once a customer has completed the Book on Google checkout flow, partners can choose to have them remain on Google’s confirmation page, or instead redirect them to the partner’s own confirmation page.

Confirmation emails

Partners have the option for Google to send a confirmation email after the user completes their transaction. The email contains information about the reservation, including the partner and the hotel, plus the check-in and check-out dates and times, booking confirmation number, a link to manage their reservation, the hotel’s cancellation policy, and more. Partners may also send their own confirmation email.
