Assign hotels to ad groups

Important: This article applies only to campaigns in the Hotel Ads Center. If you've migrated to Google Ads, read about Hotel campaigns in Google Ads.

If you'd like to set different bids or bid multipliers for sets of hotels or want to target a subset of your hotels, you can create ad groups. An ad group is a group of hotels defined in the context of each campaign. You typically use ad groups to:

  • Group hotels with similar performance, for example your top-converting hotels.
  • Set group-level bids or bid multipliers.
  • Target only a subset of the hotels in your account by pausing one or more ad groups.

Hotel groups

Structure

You can create multiple ad groups within campaigns. Ad groups aren't visible or used outside of their campaign. You can define a single set of hotel groups in each account and sub-account.
How you create and edit them Using the "Ad Group Editor" tab within each campaign. Using the "Hotel Assignment" tab within each account.
How they're used with bidding
  • Pause or unpause ad groups (targeted hotels) from running in a campaign
  • Campaign bidding
  • Campaign bid multipliers
  • Legacy group bid strategies (discontinued)
  • Legacy group bids (discontinued)
  • Legacy group bid multipliers (discontinued)
Reporting See metrics for hotels in the ad group, scoped to the specific campaign the ad group belongs to. See metrics for the group of hotels or the individual hotel globally across the account. You can't limit reporting to particular countries.
Callouts Use callouts specific to your campaigns and ad groups. Use callouts specific to your hotel groups. A hotel can only have one set of callouts that applies to all impressions.

Before you begin

When you create a campaign, all your hotels in your Hotel List Feed are automatically placed in the "Ungrouped" ad group. Create additional ad groups when you'd like to treat hotels in your campaign differently. For example, you may want to bid differently on a different group of hotels, or associate callouts on sets of hotels with similar characteristics.

Create a new ad group

Note: If you're migrating to campaigns, you can import your hotel groups to ad groups.

  1. Open Hotel Ads Center in a browser.
  2. Select the Dashboard tab.
  3. In the Dashboard menu, select View by > Campaign, and in the table at bottom, click on the campaign you'd like to edit:

  4. You're now in "Campaign View." Click Ad Group Editor at top:

  5. Click the Create New Ad Group button:

  6. Enter a name for the ad group. Ad group names must be unique within the campaign.
  7. Click the Create button. Hotel Ads Center creates a new, empty ad group.

Add hotels to an ad group

Note: If you're migrating to campaigns, you can import your hotel groups to ad groups.

  1. Open Hotel Ads Center in a browser.
  2. Click the Dashboard tab.
  3. Select View by > Campaign, and in the table at bottom, click on the campaign you'd like to edit.
This will bring you to "Campaign View."
  4. Select View by > Ad Group, and in the table at bottom, click on the ad group you'd like to edit:

  5. Click Ad Group Editor on the top menu. A list of hotels in the ad group will show. If it's a new ad group, the list will be empty. Any hotels that aren't yet in an ad group will appear as "Ungrouped" on the right side of the view:

  6. On the right, select the checkboxes next to the hotels you want to add to the ad group.
  7. To move the selected hotels to the ad group that you are currently editing, click the blue arrow.
  8. A confirmation box will show. Click the Move button and the selected hotels will move to the current ad group.

Notes:

  • Hotels can only be members of one ad group at a time. When you move a hotel into an ad group, it will no longer be in the campaign's "Ungrouped" ad group. To return a hotel to the "Ungrouped" ad group, you need to select the hotel's current ad group, select the checkboxes next to the hotels you wish to ungroup, and click the Ungroup button.
  • You can't move an ad group from one campaign to another. If you want the same or a similar ad group in multiple campaigns, you must create one for each campaign.
