Can I enter a number of products that all vary only slightly as one product?

There are a number of product categories might have products that vary only slightly ingredient-wise, but have different product or style names.  The carpet industry is a good example.  You may have one line of carpet that has a number of different style names, but the product is essentially the same at an ingredient level.

The easiest way to deal with this is to enter one product for the whole product line.  There are two things to note when doing this:

  1. In General Information, enter the product line name as the product name, and list the version/style names in the product number field. The product number field is searchable, so if a Google project team member is looking for a specific style name, they'll find the product if the style is listed in product number.
  2. When entering ingredients in intentional content, use ranges to deal with variations between versions/styles.  This allows you to accurately report ingredients, even when there is some variation between the specific products.

This approach is in line with the HPD Standard's guidance.
