What do I do if my supply chain does not want to share proprietary information?

There are several approaches

  1. If they can tell you some of the ingredients, you can use the 'unknown' exception up to 10% of your product's weight
    1. Click 'Add an Exception' then 'Unknown.'
    2. Click on 'Add this material'; It's added as a line item
    3. Click into it to edit range/recycled content/etc.
  2. If they are willing to share the ingredients with you, but not more widely with Google, you can enter in the ingredients and mask each one.
    1. Enter in the ingredient name/CAS number and add ingredient
    2. Go into the line item editing screen (ie where range, role, recycled content, etc are entered)
    3. At the top you'll see the hazards associated with the ingredient, and under that are some disclosure options
    4. Choose 'use generic name'; Give the ingredient a name it can be referenced by, and fill out the notes saying 'this is proprietary to the vendor'
  3. If they would prefer to enter this information in themselves (and use some of the strategies here for protecting IP), the system allows you to send an information request to your own suppliers
    1. Add the name of it to that first intentional content screen
    2. When it's not recognized, you would do 'Enter as a new product component...'
    3. You'd see an information request template after that
