Fix issues with your Google Assistant on headphones

If you’re not getting notifications or your Google Assistant isn’t responding, follow these steps to try fixing the issue.

Not getting notifications

Step 1: Check if Assistant notifications are turned on

  1. On your Android phone, touch and hold the Home button.
  2. At the top right, tap Explore & Your stuff and then More More and then Settings.
  3. Under "Devices," tap your headphones.
  4. Make sure Spoken notifications is turned on.

Step 2: Check if Google app notifications are turned on

  1. On your Android phone, open the Google appGoogle Search.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Under "Search," tap Notifications and then Your feed.
  4. Make sure Notifications is turned on.

Step 3: Check if Airplane mode and "Do not disturb" mode are off

  1. On your Android phone, swipe down from the top of your screen.
  2. Make sure Airplane mode and Do not disturb mode are turned off.

Assistant isn’t responding

Step 1: Check if your headphones are connected

  1. On your Android phone, touch and hold the Home button.
  2. At the top right, tap Explore & Your stuff and then More More and then Settings.
  3. Under "Devices," tap your headphones.
  4. Under "Status," check for "Connected." If they’re not connected, continue to Step 2.

Step 2: Check if Bluetooth is turned on

  1. On your Android phone, open the Settings app Settings.
  2. Tap Bluetooth.
  3. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
  4. Under "Available devices," make sure your headphones are connected.

Step 3: Restart your headphones

On your headphones, turn the power button off and then on.
