Hangouts Chat for Slack users
Welcome to the new Hangouts Chat in G Suite, a powerful way to communicate with teams of people in your organization. If you’ve been using Slack, this guide will help you learn how to get started with Chat.
As with Slack, you can use Chat to send messages directly to one or more co-workers, create a channel (room) to have ongoing conversations with groups of people, and use powerful bots to help automate your work.
Chat works in the browser on your desktop or laptop computer, in mobile apps for Android and iPhone / iPad, and in apps for Windows and macOS. Chat keeps all your messages in sync no matter which devices you use, even if you switch between them.
Use Hangouts Chat to communicate in two ways
Have a private conversation–Use a direct message to communicate with a colleague or small group of people. This works a lot like it does in Slack.
Start a group conversation—Use a room to have an ongoing conversation with your team or a group of people that can change over time. Rooms are similar to channels in Slack. All members can see the conversation history so they won't miss what was already discussed. Rooms can have multiple threads to discuss different topics within the same room.
