Hangouts / Meet video call support in Firefox 57

Hi All,

Currently, there is no support to make video calls with Hangouts / Meet using Mozilla Firefox, or you must rely on some third-party software (aside from other browsers).

I think today (with the release of Firefox 57, with the change of model in extensions, and the support of WebExtensions), is a good moment to take to the front this long-term "issue" again.

For me, a business user, is a blocking feature to use Firefox as my primary browser. I asked on Mozilla's IRC channels, and they told me that this time is on the Google side to make this compatible. Is there a place (some sort of bug tracker) to make this request? I will be very interested on that, and sure that more people too.

I just want the official (or sort-of) position of Google about this matter.

Thanks for posting in the Google Hangouts Help Forum.

Appreciate for contacting Mozilla Firefox support regarding video calls on Google Hangouts/ Meet. However, I'd suggest using the "Send Feedback" option in Hangouts to submit your suggestion, as the Hangouts team is tracking these reports directly. Sending in-product feedback allows Google to automatically collect useful information that will allow our Engineers to evaluate each case-by-case issue. Although you will not receive a reply, they're using this feedback to fix and improve the overall product experience. I have listed the steps below:

- Through the browser - Log in to Hangouts on a computer browser > Go to the Menu > Select Help & Feedback > At the bottom of the Help window, Touch Send Feedback.


- Through the application - Open the Hangouts application > On the top left corner, click on the three horizontal lined icon > select Help & feedback > select Send feedback.

For me: Hangouts video now works, without Google's plug-in, with Firefox 56.0.2 (64-bit) and Waterfox 56.0.1 on FreeBSD-CURRENT.

Javi, please: does it work with Firefox 57?

Doesn't work for me in FF57. Nothing changed. I have no hangouts plugin installed.

"Hangouts video and voice calls don’t work in Firefox for now
Google is working to fix this as soon as possible. Until then, use a different supported browser."

I like FF, but for Hangouts, I need to use Chrome

Same here, still does not work on Firefox 57.0.1.

That's Google Meet https://meet.google.com/ – not to be confused with Hangouts.

@Graham: Sorry, I though this was about Hangouts Meet also.

The product name is Hangouts Meet and they ask to submit Feedback through the Hangouts application.
So this is the right forum for Hangouts Meet imho.

If not, please suggest where I should take my feedback.

I tested on a separate computer,  http://hangouts.google.com/ video works for me with Firefox 57.0.1 (64-bit) on Kubuntu. Ergo Vista 621 with a low end Myshow webcam on USB, which fails the 1280x720 test at http://test.webrtc.org/ but evidently it's good enough for Hangouts.

Hello,
For additional info, I use FF 57.0.4 on Debian Stretch (64bit), Hangouts video & voice now works well. I've tested on previous FF 57 version (couldn't remember whether its 57.0.0 or newer releases), and got same error w/ ARA.
