You can change your Google Account photo and set custom statuses in Hangouts.
Share what you're doing
You can share your current status on any device where you sign in with the same Hangouts account.
- On your computer, go to Hangouts at hangouts.google.com or in Gmail. If you have the Hangouts extension, click the icon in the top right corner of your browser.
- Open your settings.
- In hangouts.google.com, click Menu
Settings.
- In Gmail, click the Down arrow

- In the Hangouts extension app, click Menu

- In hangouts.google.com, click Menu
- In “Share your status,” type a message, like "in a meeting" or "on vacation."
- When you’re done, press Enter.
- Under the “Share your status” box, select what details you’d like other people to see, including which device you're using or when you last used Hangouts.
Change your profile photo
If you’re using Hangouts classic, add a photo directly to your Google Account.
Otherwise:
- Go to Hangouts at hangouts.google.com or in Gmail. If you have the Hangouts extension, click the icon in the top right of your browser.
- Open your settings.
- In hangouts.google.com, click Menu

- In Gmail, click the Down arrow

- In the Hangouts extension app, click Menu

- In hangouts.google.com, click Menu
- In the top left of your settings, click the photo.
- Follow the instructions to add or update the photo.
- Click Set as profile photo.
Note: Hangouts uses your Google Account's profile photo. Changes made in Hangouts are made to your account as well.
